Comprehensive evaluation on quality of acute flaccid paralysis surveillance by TOPSIS method in Guangdong province

Objective To make a comprehensive evaluation on the quality of acute flaccid paralysis (AFP) surveillance in Guangdong province.Methods TOPSIS method was applied to evaluate 7 indicators of AFP surveillance in Guangdong province chronologically from 1994 to 2008, and compare 5 indicators of AFP surveillance in every prefecture from 1999 to 2008.Results 2004 witnessed the best performance of AFP surveillance in Guangdong province, and the performance of AFP surveillance in 1994 was most unsatisfied.As for the grade of AFP surveillance quality at prefecture level, the first one was found in Shenzheng and the last one was found in Heyuan.Conclusion TOPSIS method could reflect the performance of AFP surveillance more actually and reasonably compared with single indicator.
